Jamie checked the condo numbers today and we also walked past the building. The realistic all-in monthly still lands around $7,560, which is about $3,100 above our renewed Unit 3B base rent. The entry is worse for Kibo — exterior steps before the elevator and no practical ramp setup like we have now — and the commute is not meaningfully better for either of us. We decided not to pursue buying in Oakland this year. We are staying with Unit 3B through the September 2026 lease, keeping the Lake Merritt/Kibo routine as the household anchor, and not opening an active home search.

There's no new deposit, no renewal fee, utility bill-back is unchanged, pet terms are unchanged, and the foldable ramp and non-slip runner at the entry remain allowed. The weekend comparison made it clear that moving would add real cost, commute friction, and disruption to Kibo care and our Lake Merritt routine, and we're not pursuing buying in Oakland in 2026. There won't be a fall move or an active home search.
