brunch w Anya at 11. mostly just gonna listen and not do the annoying fixer thing. if it comes up naturally i can mention the two people, but not trying to turn lunch into outreach triage. before that just keeping Sphere quiet for a couple hours -- metrics-router / ingest-edge / shard-keeper, nothing fancy.

Brunch with Anya happened. June 26 is the date, so that part's not fuzzy now. She was pretty wound up. I mostly stayed in listen mode, which was probably the move, even if I was more spun than I let on. I did mention two agency people a friend-of-a-friend knows, just lightly, not turning it into a whole plan. Feels like she heard that without having to carry it yet.

she texted after brunch. basically thanks for not doing the whole "here are 19 people you should talk to" thing. said two LinkedIn contacts was nice. and he just wrote back "two felt right". very him. think she noticed he was actually listening

75% today if it stays this boring. this morning is basically pre-flight: label parity w Nadia, restart path once more, make sure Wes has the real backup runbook and not the half-outdated one. tomorrow night's his first actual solo on it so I'd rather over-check now than do heroics at 11:40.

Update the shard-keeper runbook page with the post-restart canary thresholds. Five min thing. Add the exact numbers, not "watch for drift."

day done. shard-keeper sitting at 75% and still boring, which i'll take. labels held, restart path was fine again. Wes has the solo window tomorrow night so i'm not hovering on it. home now, Kibo already pacing around dinner.

light day on paper. gonna use the quiet part this morning to make sure Wes has clean handoff notes for tonight and that the rollback bits still match what's actually deployed. i'm sleeping w the phone face-up, obviously, but he's primary. he's ready.

overnight Jun 21 was Wes's first real solo on-call shift. one minor metrics-router cardinality blip, handled clean. he pulled me in as secondary at the 40-minute mark bc he wasn't fully sure, then got it sorted. No escalation needed. I DM'd Cyrus after like "the kid's going to be fine" which... yeah.

Phone's staying face up tonight. Wes pinged around 11:30 and he was right to just watch it for a beat -- page cleared at 11:55, no extra drama. Kinda nice seeing him make the call clean. Sleep now.

Wes did well last night. first real solo and he handled the little metrics-router cardinality thing clean -- pinged me around 40 min, I told him his read was right, then he closed it out. dropped a quick "great work" in the channel this morning. kid's settling in fast.

Jun 22 1:1 with Hema just now. walked her through Wes's first-solo overnight, incl the little metrics-router blip and that the ping at 40 was the right call -- not late, not noise, just the right point to pull me in. she was pretty measured about it. basically good, that's growth. which feels right. not trying to over-index one clean shift, but for a first real solo that's the thing i wanted to hear from her.

`shard-keeper` migration's at 75% cutover on Jun 23 and holding clean. labels stayed clean, no weirdness. Devika's third night-block is ending that night, so hopefully pretty quiet from here.

Anya texted me: "Monday. I think it'll be fine." I sent back "i think so too. either way we've got you". honestly the exact right tone. no fixing, no weird optimism dump. just there.

Jun 24 and Devika's home for good now, post-third-block. very quiet in the apartment. they did brunch at home -- eggs, toast, nothing ambitious -- and that's kind of the whole plan, I think. no one trying to turn it into a day.

cortado's actually pretty good today. got the crossword done in 6 min which is either me being awake or the puzzle giving up early. 5-letter for 'cunning' was WILY. Devika's still asleep so i'm not making a sound when i get back.

tv's off already. weirdly quiet in here except Kibo doing laps bc Devika gave him too much attention one time and now he thinks 8:30 is party hour. tomorrow's the day for Anya. just sitting with that a little, then probably sleep.

today's mostly just keep Sphere boring. shard-keeper cutover still in motion so i'm gonna keep an eye on label-name parity / handoff stuff, but phone's on loud bc today's Anya's agency announcement and i probably won't actually have it in my hand much. if Nadia pings about the downstream rollup bits i need to answer fast.

`shard-keeper` is holding at 80%. cutover kept moving even with Anya's layoff day in the middle of it -- life doesn't really pause for clean timing. labels are still matching Nadia's side, restart path stayed normal, nothing weird out of rollup-service.

Anya's agency did the Jun 26 cut today -- sounds like ~15% of the company. she wasn't hit, but two of her closest coworkers were. she's over now. I ordered Thai and I think we're putting on something stupid, which is probably right. Devika's asking how she's holding up... not great, obviously, but she's here.

Anya's here. Devika was still texting from work for a while, then they ate Thai and put on the dumbest sitcom they could find. pretty sure that was the right call. she's on the couch tonight. apartment's weirdly gentle rn, except Kibo keeps doing patrol laps like this is his guest room now.

made Anya coffee before she headed out. she did the "i'm fine, really" thing and i think... mostly yes. still feels a little brittle around the edges, but she ate some toast and got out the door on time. that's something.

`shard-keeper` hit 85% by EOD and it's still boring, which is the whole goal. labels are clean, restart path stayed clean again, and the cutover finally feels like the actual closing stretch now.

Devika's home. we made way too much Thai last night so there are like 4 containers of it still taking over the fridge. she and Anya were on the phone for 20 min after dinner. sounded normal. good, honestly.

Lantern v0 architecture doc on my screen since this morning, Jun 28. weirdly the data pipeline part is the easy bit -- that's all familiar enough. the part that's actually taking time is the contract with the UI layer, bc if we get that wrong Iris either has to guess state we never emit or we end up back-solving product semantics from frontend events, which i do not want. we're basically converging now on a thin event envelope + explicit provenance fields + a small set of stable status enums, not a giant schema dump. leaning append-only facts into the store, then a derived read model the UI can hit without re-implementing joins. need enough shape that Theo can see the edges, but not so much fake certainty that we lock v0 too early. gonna circulate the Lantern v0 architecture doc for comment by Jul 3.

Jun 28 DM with Cyrus made me laugh a little. Lantern gets Theo's whole "Q3 strategic push" thing in one room, then Cyrus is just like cute name, real value. way closer to how I actually talk about work. I hit him with "thanks I guess" which... yeah.

Jun 30, `shard-keeper migration` is at 90% cutover and still clean. I mentioned to Hema in our 1:1 I expect it done first week of July. Feels like the closing stretch now.

Hema 1:1 happened. I told her shard-keeper is done first week of July. She just went "good. Lantern then." and I said "Lantern then." that's the whole handoff, basically.

Friday done. shard-keeper's sitting around 90% and still boring, which is what I wanted. I told Hema it'll finish first week of July, probably right. Lantern doc is making the rounds now. Walked home in actual summer for once, weirdly nice. Devika's still at the hospital, Kibo sprawled in the hallway.

long run first, then groceries. that's basically the day. drinks with Anya tonight so trying not to accidentally fill the middle with fake errands.

drinks on Jul 1 with Anya at this wine bar she found. way lighter than last weekend. we talked through the Jun 26 layoff stuff a bit -- she's safe, two coworkers aren't, which still kind of sits there. but also Three good job leads, and her phone was actually busy for once. feels more like herself tonight.

back table, cortado, sunday thing. Anya texted from her place asking if this was a race so now apparently it was. lost by 4 min. annoying but fair lol. guy by the window has been on 17-across for like ten full minutes and i weirdly respect the commitment.

Anya seems on one today lol. "7-letter for hexagon" to BEEHIVE is such a crossword crime. I gave her a flat "agree" because yeah.

ok so this week's pretty intentionally light. set it up that way in the Jun 30 1:1 with Hema bc i wanted room for shard-keeper close-out and the Lantern doc review, basically just the week of July 4 / July 5 not being chaos on purpose. shard-keeper's at like 92% and the Lantern v0 architecture doc is still open on my screen. nice, honestly.

Devika's home, finally. normal little block tonight. kitchen light on, Kibo posted up under the table like he's on payroll. day ended clean. not much to say besides that felt nice.

First Q3 close-out pass didn't give me the boring 95% push I wanted. Roman found one low-volume shard where rollup-service catch-up lagged by about six minutes after label replay. Nothing is failing and Nadia still isn't seeing alert parity drift, but after Apr 18 I'm not willing to wave away a downstream ambiguity, so I held shard-keeper at 92% instead of forcing the missed 95% target and gave Wes a concrete monitoring slice during the hold: shard-lag and canary panels.
